The Household Cavalry Regiment (HCR) was formed from the Life Guards and The Blues and Royals. More commonly associated with ceremonial duties in London, the HCR fulfil an operational role with Airborne forces.

The HCR is tasked with a Formation Reconnaissance (FR) role - gathering and relaying information about the enemy positions.

To this end, the HCR use light, fast and quiet armoured vehicles (such as the Scimitar) capable of speeds of up to 50 mph to manoeuvre close to the enemy. Stealth is essential, but if compromised the speed and firepower of the Scimitar can be utilised.

The Regiment provides one squadron in support of 16 Air Assault Brigade and at least one parachute trained troop to be available for operations.

At present, D Squadron support 16 Air Assault.
