23 Parachute Engineer Regiment provides close and general engineer support to 16 Air Assault Brigade. The regiment is held at a very high state of readiness and regularly called upon to deploy on operations across the globe. Insertion is by parachute, helicopter or fixed wing aircraft.
The unit, formerly named 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault), was established in 2003 but can trace its roots back to the beginnings of airborne operations during the Second World War. The renaming of the regiment was marked with a formal ceremony in June 2015
The regiment's two regular squadrons and headquarters are based in its flagship barracks (Rock Barracks) just outside Woodbridge in Suffolk. It also has a reserve squadron with detachments in Wakefield, Hull and Gateshead.
