The 4th Airborne Division was a phantom division established as part of Operation Cascade to deceive the Germans on the allied military strength in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Initially the 4th Parachute Brigade formed part of the Division, along with fictional units, until assigned to the 1st Airborne Division.

The deception over the order of battle was maintained through false intelligence, troop movements and signals traffic.
