The Signals Squadron was formed from the 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade Signals Squadron in 1948 and operated in support of the 16th Independent Parachute Brigade Group.

In 1960 the Brigade was renamed 16th Parachute Brigade with the word 'independent' dropped from its title.
