After serving for two years in Iraq John Frost was presented with this hunting horn by members of the 'Royal Exodus Hunt' on leaving for Britain in 1940.

He later commanded the 2nd Parachute Battalion during World War II and used it on 17 September 1944 to rally his men who had orders to capture the bridge at Arnhem, now called the John Frost Bridge.

Frost lost the hunting horn during the battle, near to the bridge, where he was wounded and taken prisoner.

It was found in the rubble around the bridge by Mr E R  Oosterwijk in 1945, while he was in charge of a working party clearing the area. He presented the hunting horn, polished and restored, to the Airborne Museum 'Hartenstein' in 1997.
