On Monday, 18th September 1944 the AFPU team made several, unsuccesful attempts to get through to the bridge at Arnhem in an abandoned jeep. Eventually they returned to the house they had made their base and took the opportunity to cook a meal. Here Sgt Dennis Smith has photographed Sgt Gordon Walker receiving a cup of tea from Miss. Sylvia L. de Meulenaar, whilst Sgt 'Mike' Lewis is eating a 'compo' ration straight from the tin! Note the slight damage to the left mud-guard of the keep from a bullet and the improvised AFPU sign on the front. BU 1150.
