The 283 (City of London Yeomanry) Light Anti-Aircraft Battery RA served with the Airborne Division from early July 1942. The Territorial Army unit wore a distinctive Airborne insignia as the 'Rough Riders' to accompany their Airborne shoulder flash.
The 283rd Light Anti-Aircraft Battery was the forerunner of the 1st Airlanding Light Anti-Aircraft Battery RA, so designated in December 1942, and remaining part of 1st Airborne Division until late-February 1944.
