William Timothy Nickson was born in Blackpool and spent his Army life in Scotland with 7th Battalion Cameron Highlanders before it was redesignated as 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion.
He completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway (now Manchester Airport) and was later sent to North Africa.He fought in Italy (including Monte Cassino), Southern France and Greece.
He died after a short illness on 2 November 2010 and it was a privilege to have known him.
