William T Morley volunteered from the Lancashire Fusiliers to join Airborne Forces in early/mid 1943 and was posted to Depot and School Airborne Forces at Hardwick Hall for training.
He then undertook Parachute Course 78 at RAF Ringway. This Course ran from 14 to 24 August 1943. His instructor noted this about his performance on the course:
"Nervous at first, inattentive, needed individual attention"
Pte Morley was then posted to 4th Parachute Battalion (this was the last all volunteer battalion and after this whole existing regular infantry battalions were co-opted into Airborne Forces) and saw service in Italy, South of France and Greece with the Battalion as part of 2nd Parachute Brigade. Within the battalion he served in B Company, 7 Platoon.
William joined the Army Reserves 5 May 1946. He sadly passed away in 1996.
