My father, Private Thomas Mullen, served with 1st Battalion Border Regiment.

Bill Sloan was a close friend of my fathers. They enlisted at the same time in October 1939 and went to Belgium with the BEF, evacuated at the end of May 1940 from Dunkirk.

My father ended up in India so missed Arnhem, and is still alive today aged 91 (06.12.2010)

On his behalf - 'God bless you Bill'

I think that my existence my be down to this man's sacrifice? My grandmother married William/Bill Sloan in Early 1944 (Carlisle Area) but were only married a short time before she learnt of his death. She later remarried and the rest is history. If this is the same Bill Sloan, I am eternaly greatful for your ultimate sacrifice. "God bless you"
