William Albert Sargeant, son of William and Sarah Sargeant, of Somers Town, London, enlisted into the General Service Corps, was posted to The King’s Regiment (Liverpool), and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Private Sargeant successfully completed parachute training on course number 119 at RAF Ringway from 5 to 20 June 1944, his course report stated ‘good parachutist, cheerful but nervous’. He was posted to A Company, The 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion.
Pte Sargeant died of wounds on 5 January 1945, aged 21, and was buried in Ciney Temporary Burial Ground (Belgium). He was later reinterred in Hotton War Cemetery on 21 May 1947.
