"On a tragic note, another death marred the pre - Christmas celebrations when Pte William Farquharson was killed when he fell from the climbing wall at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh on 8th November 1984. He was a well liked young soldier who was about to try for a commission. He will be sadly missed by C. Coy and the battalion. We extend our condolences to his family"
Pegasus Journal August 1986 Pg 61
"The Coy have taken possession of the 'Farquharston Trophy' in memory of Pte Bill Farquharston who tragically died from a fall from the Meadowbank climbing wall. It is a magnificent 'Grenwich Meridian Clock' valued at some £1,200. It has been decided to present it to the Pte. soldier in the Para Pln who has been deemed to show the same 'Airborne Qualities' as Bill had a 12 month period".
