Driver William A Ridgewell enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps during World War II and volunteered for airborne forces.
He qualified as a military parachutist on Course 99 which ran at RAF Ringway from 19 January to 3 February 1944 and subsequently served as a driver with 225 Parachute Field Ambulance which took part in the campaigns in North West Europe during 1944-45.
