William John Creaney was the son of William George and Mrs Creaney, of Belfast, Northern Ireland, he enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Trooper Creaney successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway, on course number 17 from 5 to 13 July 1942 and was posted to 1st Special Air Service Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).
Trp Creaney was killed in action on 18 June 1944, aged 22, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
