Corporal William Albert Hunter, son of John and Anna Hunter, of Downfield, Dundee, served with 13th (South Lancs) Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Normandy campaign, during Op Overlord.
William volunteered for the airborne forces from The RAC. He successfully passed parachute jump instruction at RAF Ringway on course 87. This course of 8 jumps from balloon and aircraft ran between 13 and 25 October 1943. His instructor noted this about William's performance:
"Good average, made satisfactory course" (sic)
Corporal Hunter died on 19 August 1944, aged 20 years old. He is now buried at Putot-en-Auge Churchyard, Putot-en-Auge near Caen, Normandy.
