Private William Henderson

William Henderson was the son of James and Agnes Henderson, of Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire. He enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Henderson successfully completed his glider training and was posted to Support Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Henderson was killed in action on 25/26 September 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial in an isolated group of graves in front of the Stads-Leven hotel, Arnhem, he was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 8 August 1945.
