Corporal William Henry Locke was the son of William Henry and Florence Locke, of Street, Somerset, and husband of Mary Peace Locke, also of Street. He served with 4th Parachute Battalion and took part in the Italian campaign. Before this he served with the Somerset Light Infantry.
William was successfully parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 12. This course which ran between 20 April and 1 May 1942 was attended mainly by men of The 1st Parachute Brigade.
Research suggests that William died of an illness, on 29 November 1944, aged 30 years old. He is now buried at Rome War Cemetery, Italy. Grave ref: II, F, 29.
