William Henry Dowsett, son of William and Hilda May Dowsett, of Yiewsley, Middlesex, enlisted into the Royal Armoured Corps.
Pte Dowestt volunteered for airborne forces and undertook parachute jump training in Kabrit on Course 35 in April/May 1943 and was posted to The 156 Parachute Battalion.
Pte Dowsett served in Italy before his battalion returned to England in November 1943.
He jumped on the second lift of Operation Market Garden on 18 September 1944 and was killed in Action aged 22 between 20 to 22 September and buried in a mass grave in a wood n the Sonnberg Estate. Pte Dowsett is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
