Private William H Doherty

William Henry Doherty enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Doherty successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 73, from 19 to 28 July 1943. His course report stated “Intelligent and enthusiastic pupil.” He was posted to 224 Parachute Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, attached to 8th Bn., The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Doherty was killed in action on 7 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial at Le Mesnill and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 June 1945.
