William G Lee | ParaData

Private William G Lee served with 2 PARA initially with A Company.

During Operation Corporate in the Falkland Islands he served with No 2 Section in 2 PARA's Mortar Platoon.

Pte Lee was later killed in a road traffic accident on 21 October 1982.

On 2nd April 1982 Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, a British Territory in the South Atlantic, followed the next day by an assault on South Georgia. The defending Royal Marines detachment at both locations were taken prisoner after fierce firefights.

Northern Ireland (Operation Banner)

A brief honeymoon as peace keepers between two warring communities locked in civil unrest descended into a virtual civil war between Republican IRA and Protestant para-military groups during the Northern Ireland ‘Troubles’ that were to last 37 years.

Scouse Lee was a member of my patrol during the 1979-81 tour of NI. He later survived the Falklands tour only to be killed in an RTA upon his return to the UK in 1982. His only child (Vincent) had died as a baby during the NI tour.
