Wesley William Shwaluk was the son of Steve and Katherine Shwaluk, of Oakburn, Manitoba, Canada. He was a Farmer. He was 5’ 9¼”, 154 lbs, medium complexion, gray eyes, brown hair and with 20/20 vision.

He enlisted in the Infantry, E Company on 30 April 1943, arrived in UK on 12 April 1944. He transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, and qualified as a parachutist on 4 December 1943. He qualified as a 3” Mortarman on 18 March 1944, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Private Shwaluk and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped into France on 5/6 June 1944. He was killed in action on 9 June 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil de Breville par Bavent, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 27 September 1945.
