Wendell James Clark was the son of Thomas and Irene Clark, of Ontario, Canada. He enlisted in the Royal Regiment of Canada, in Halifax on 26 February 1936 and later volunteered for airborne forces.

Warrant Officer Class 1 Clark successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway, on 23 August to 9 September 1942. He was posted to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps, as Regimental Sergeant Major, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

RSM Clark was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 29, and was given an isolated field burial near Bavent, France. He was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 1 October 1945.
