Thomas Whyte McGuffie was born and lived in Glasgow, he was commissioned in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lieutenant McGuffie successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 123 from 3 to 17 July 1944. He was posted to 9th Battalion the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Lt McGuffie was killed in action on 31 March 1945, whilst taking part in Operation Varsity and was given a field burial at Greven, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 23 May 1947.
