Thomas Stanley Warwick came from Cumberland and was married to Beryl Elsie Warwick, from Kings Norton Birmingham.
He volunteered for parachuting duties with airborne forces while serving with the Royal Artillery during World War II and qualified after completing course 110 which ran at RAF Ringway in April 1944. His course report reads: "Capable & confident. Good performance"
He was posted to 1st Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery RA, and subsequently served with P Troop during the Battle of Arnhem in Operation Market Garden.
It is believed that he was operating a gun near the Hartenstein Hotel, when he was killed on 23 September 1944, aged 22 years. His graves shows him as 24 but as with many he ‘doctored’ his age on joining up. .
Gnr Warwick has no known grave but is commemorated on Panel 2 of the Groesbeek Memorial at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery.
