Thomas Hugill Tindall enlisted into the General Service Corps.
He volunteered for airborne forces and qualified as a military parachutist on course 78 which ran at RAF Ringway in August 1943. The course instructors' notes show ‘Pte Tindall a good nco and good performer.’
Private Tindall was initially posted to Holding Company before being posted to Mortar Platoon , C Coypany, The 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion (7th Para Bn).
Pte Tindall jumped into Normandy on Operation Overlord and saw active service in the Ardennes, the Rhine Crossing and the Advance to the Baltic.
Once the war in Europe ended 7th Para Bn was moved to the Far East with the 5th Parachute Brigade in 1945.
Sergeant Tindall died on 24 March 1946, aged 24 years old and is buried at the Jakarta War Cemetery, Java.
