Private Thomas A Gibson

Thomas Arthur Gibson was the son of John and Betsy Gibson, of Nottingham. He enlisted in the The King’s Royal Rifle Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Gibson successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 63 from 4 to 17 May 1943. His course report stated “A fine type and a hard worker”. He was posted to A Company, 3 Platoon, 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Gibson was killed in action, aged 23, on 17 September 1944 and was given a field burial near Oosterbeek-Laag station, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 May 1946.
