Thomas Gordon Richardson was born and lived in Cumberland, he enlisted in the Border Regiment, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Richardson successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 89, from 28 October to 9 November 1943. His course report stated “Stick work exceptionally fast, inclined towards recklessness”. He was posted to 12th (10th Bn. The Green Howards [Yorkshire Regiment]) Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Richardson was killed in action on 10 July 1944, age 25, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
