Thomas Booley was born in Lambeth, London and enlisted into the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1940.
By 1944 he was serving in the 64th Light Battery, RA, in Italy, when it was converted to the Airborne role, to support the 2nd (Independent) Parachute Brigade Group.
On the 15 August 1944 he took off in a an American glider, a Waco, piloted by Americans, to take part in Operation ‘Dragoon’. Unfortunately, the glider crashed on LZ ‘O’ near the village of Le Mitan in Southern France and he was killed.
He is buried at MAZARGUES WAR CEMETERY, MARSEILLES, Plot 4. Row C. Grave 6.
The son of Thomas and Martha Booley; husband of May E Booley, of Streatham, London, he was 32 years old when he died.
Note: On the official Casualty Reports he is still listed as 165th Field Regiment, RA.
