Private Stanley G Bolton

Stanley Gordon Bolton, a Londoner, enlisted in 11th Battalion, The Royal Fusiliers in May 1942.

Fusilier Bolton trained as a signaller before volunteering for airborne forces in early 1943.

He undertook parachute jump training course 51 which ran at RAF Ringway from 15 to 27 February 1943. This was a standard course of eight descents comprising three balloon descents, including one at night, and five aircraft descents.

Fusilier Bolton was posted to The 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion (9th Para Bn).

Private Bolton undertook a second parachute jump course, parachute training course 121 at RAF Ringway between 18 June and 7 July 1944. The course report states: ‘Pte Bolton- Quiet, confident, good performer.

He was posted to No1 Airborne Forces Holding Unit before re-joining 9th Para Bn in August 1944.

Pte Bolton served as a Headquarter Company signaller in the Ardennes, on the Rhine Crossing and in Palestine.

He demobbed in February 1947.
