Stanley Brierley Braddock served with the 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion during World War 2. Corporal Braddock attended parachuting training course 92 at Ringway in November 1943, and was posted to A Company in early 1944.
He parachuted into Normandy, and his conduct in battle earned him a promotion to Sergeant as a Section Leader.
The 13th (Lancs) Para Bn, as part of the 6th Airborne Division, assisted the counter-offensive in the Ardennes, and in January 1945, Sgt Braddock was part of A Company’s attack into Bure. After a costly three day battle, the Germans were ejected from the village.
The Battalion then took part in the Rhine Crossing Operation Varsity, parachuting over the Rhine in March. Sgt Braddock led his section across Germany to the Baltic Sea.
After the War, the Battalion moved to the Far East, and Colour-Sergeant Braddock was appointed Company Quartermaster Sergeant (CQMS).
CSgt Braddock was also a skilled football player, playing for the Battalion team on the forward line.
Stanley Braddock died in September 1997.
