Samuel Fell, son of Frank and Mary Jane Fell, of Denton, Lancashire, enlisted into the 2nd/4th Battalion, The South Lancashire Regiment which was turned over to airborne duties in May 1943 and redesignated as 13th (South Lancs) Parachute Battalion to form part of the 5th Parachute Brigade within the 6th Airborne Division.
Lance Corporal Fell attended Course 72 which ran at RAF Ringway from 12 to 23 July 1943, along with other members of the 13th Battalion and members of the 8th Battalion.
He then parachuted into France on 6 June 1944 to fight in the Normandy campaign.
L/Cpl Fell died of wounds, aged 22 years old on 4 May 1945 and is buried at the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery.
