Private Samuel Cowie was the son of Samuel and Alice Cowie, and husband of Vera Cowie, of Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire. He served with 156th Parachute Battalion and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
He died on 19 September 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
