Royston (Roy) Francis Turner signed up for National Service on the 19 June 1947 and after basic training he was transferred to the East Surrey Regiment on the 31 July 1947.
Roy was selected for training to The Parachute Regiment and after successfully passing his training he was permanently attached to the AAC (Parachute Regiment) with effect from 12 December 1947. He served with 3 PARA in the British Army on the Rhine (BAOR) in Itzehoe, Hildesheim and in Palestine between until his discharge from national Service on the 13 July 1949.
