Lieutenant Roy George Wortley Dodd, known as 'Bobby', was the son of Robert and Louisa Wortley Dodd, of Flansham, Sussex.

Bobby served in the ranks, reaching the rank of Sergeant with the Royal Army Service Corps, prior to the granting of an ermergency commission in January 1941.

Two years later he transferred to The Parachute Regiment and joined 10th Parachute Battalion in the Middle East.

While on Battalion operations in Italy, he served as a Platoon Commander in D Company during the attack on, and capture of Castellaneta. Later, personnel changes In Italy resulted in Bobby Dodd becoming the commander of the 3in Mortar Platoon in Support Company.

He later took part  in 1st Airborne Division's airborne assault to capture the Rhine Crossings at Arnhem, as part of Operation Market Garden, in September 1944.

Bobby Dodd was one of three officers from the Battalion who landed by glider with the Bren Gun Carriers, 6 pounder guns and jeeps.

On arrival he took four jeeps from the glider landing zone to meet up with the remainder of Support Company on the Drop Zone at Ginkle Heath.

On the evening of 19 September members of the 10th Battalion crossed the railway line at Woflheze and took up positions in a wood. 

Lieutenant Dodd became separated from the battalion around this time and died on 20 September 1944, aged 30 years old. He was Initially given a field burial along the Amsterdamseweg in the Lichtenbeek area and is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
