Private Roy George Renyard was the son of George Percy and Helen Renyard, of St. Denys, Southampton. It is believed that prior to joining airborne forces he served with 24 Machine Gun Training Centre.
He attended Parachute Training Course No 90, which ran at RAF Ringway from 1 to13 November 1943. The course was attended by 262 trainees who completed 1825 descents including 223 by night. The instructors noted that Pte Renyard was a "good parachutist, fits anywhere, confident jumper, recommended".
Pte Renyard was posted to the 13th Parachute Battalion on completion of his training.
He jumped with the Battalion as part of Operation Overlord and fought in the Normandy campaign.
Pte Renyard died on 19 August 1944, aged 22 years, and is buried in Putot-En-Auge Churchyard, Normandy.
