Ronald Frederick Capel enlisted into the Army during World War II and was commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 1 July 1945.
He was promoted to War Substantive Lieutenant on 1 January 1946 and served with the 6th Airborne Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment in Palestine.
When the Recce Regiment was disbanded in February 1946, he transferred to Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) 6th Parachute Battalion, part of 2nd Parachute Brigade.
He left Haifa on 24 January 1947, as part of the 2nd Parachute Brigade Group, on board HT Alcantara bound for the UK
Records indicate that he was placed on the 'Release' List in September 1947, although he did not formally relinquish his commission until 9 September 1948, on enlistment into the Territorial Army.
He emigrated to Australia in the 1950s and continued his military career, serving in the prestigious Australian Army Trainining Team Vietnam in 1967.
Ron passed away in 1990.
