Robert Windrum Curry was a carpenter/joiner before enlisting in Acton with The RE on 31 July 1940.
He applied to volunteer for the airborne forces and was first interviewed 23 January 1942 at The 'Scotsman' Building in Edinburgh.
He was posted to 1st Para sqn RE on 24 March 1942. Robert successfully passed his parachute jump instruction course at RAF Ringway on Course 12. This course ran between 22 and 30 April 1942.
On 9 September 1942 he was transferred back to various units within Royal Engineers. Including Artisan Works Coy RE, which were involved building works on communication lines, often behind the front line.
His service record state he was in NW Europe between 4 September 1944 and 18 November 1945. Robert joined the Reserves not long after returning to the UK on 23 December 1945.
