Robert Thomas George Holden was the son of George and Ivy Holden and the husband of Elsie May Holden, of Lower Gornal, Staffordshire. He enlisted in the South Staffordshire Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Private Holden successfully completed glider training and was posted to HQ Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Holden was killed in action between 25 and 26 September 1944, aged 30, in the area of the Hartenstein Hotel and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
