Robert John Thomas was the son of Robert and Mary Thomas, of Llangoed, Anglesey. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Driver Thomas successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 250 (Airborne) Light Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Dvr Thomas was killed in a German ambush near Oosterbeek Hoog railway station on 18 September 1944, aged 23. For more information on the ambush see Capt Desmond T Kavanagh.
Dvr Thomas was given a field burial 50 yards north of the railway, beside Dreyenseweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 13 August 1945.
