Robert James Taylor enlisted into the General Service Corps.
Later he volunteered for airborne forces and served with 2 Medium Machine Gun Platoon, Support Company, the 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Private Taylor took part in the Battle of Arnhem, Operation Market Garden.
Pte Taylor drowned crossing the river Rhine during the withdrawal of Arnhem on 25-26 September 1944, aged 19 years old. He was recovered from the river Rhine at Remmerden on 4 October 1944 and is now buried at Rhenen General Cemetery, Rhenen, Utrecht.
