Robert John Harvey was the son of Charles and Susan Harvey, of Brighton, Sussex; husband of Cissie Doris Ruby Harvey, of Brighton, Sussex. Robert was a Milk Roundsman and married Cissie on 21 December 1934, they had three children; William in January 1937, Robert in April 1940 and Brian in 1943. He enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Harvey successfully completed glider training and was posted to 398 (Airborne) Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Harvey was killed in action on 21 June 1944, aged 37, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
