Raymond Perry was born and lived in West Bromwich. He enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Private Perry successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Perry was was wounded in the abdomen and the upper leg by a mortar bomb in a slit trench in Oosterbeek. He was carried away on a stretcher, possibly to the Border Regt’s RAP (Regimental Aid Post). This happened on 21 or 22 September. There is also a statement by an eyewitness who last saw him in Stalag XIIA (Limburg) on 30 October. On that day Perry was taken to a working camp (Roll of Honour, 5th revised edition, 2011). Raymond is presumed to have died on 30 October 1944, aged 19, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
