Raymond Leonard Walter Harris was the son of Bernard and Daisy Harris, of Sarisbury Green, Hampshire. He enlisted in the Hampshire Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Signalman Harris successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 103 from 15 to 28 February 1944. His course report stated “Good average performance”. He was posted to 1 Para Brigade, J Section, 1st Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sigmn Harris was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
