Private Raymond C Grayston

Raymond Cecil Grayston enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces. Son of Mr and Mrs GW Grayson of Cricklewood, Middlesex.

Private Grayston successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 79 from 23 August to 2 September 1943 and was posted to 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Grayston was killed in action, aged 20, on 18 September 1944 and was given a field burial beside Breedeweg area Zilverberg, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 1 July 1946.

I believe his first burial stated here as being beside the Bredelaan is incorrect. His coordinates (6922961) for his field grave put him beside the Breedeweg in the Zilverberg area. Same location as Pte T.J. Carrigan of the 7KOSB.
