Philip McNally was the son of Philip and Natalie Daisy McNally, of Portobello, Midlothian, he enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Driver McNally successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 116, from 15 to 27 May 1944. His course report stated “Average jumper, awkward, slow thinker, fearless.” He was posted to 63rd (Airborne) Composite Company, RASC, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).
Dvr McNally was killed in action on 7 June 1944, aged 19, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
