Private Peter Wilson

Peter Wilson was born in County Durham and lived in Bedford, he enlisted in the Highland Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Wilson successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 74 from 23 July to 3 August 1943. His course report stated “Performance good, a little nervous, will improve with experience”. He was posted to 9th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Wilson was killed in action on 12 June 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial in Breville, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 2 July 1945.
