Pte Paul Morrison Lenton served as a member of the Non-Combatant Corps during World War II and volunteered for airborne forces in October 1944.
Pte Lenton qualified as a military parachutist on Course 140 which ran at RAF Ringway from 30 October to 14 November 1944. The course instructors’ notes record ‘Very good performer, ideal pupil, confident and keen’. He was then posted to 2 Section, 224 Parachute Field Ambulance RAMC.
He served in the Ardennes and jumped in Operation Varsity on 24 March 1945. His actions on that day, attending the wounded without hesitation under fire, resulted in the award of a Military Medal.
