Norman Gent was the son of Robert and Florence Gent, of Liverpool. He enlisted in the Rifle Brigade and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Gent successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 77. The course lasted from 9 to 18 August 1943 and was posted to 11th Battalion the Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Gent died of wounds on 18 September 1944, aged 20, and was buried by the local Air Raid Wardens in the Onder de Bomen General Cemetery at Renkum in September/October 1944 and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
