Loftus Wagenmakers was the son of Sietse Djurre and Ada Wagenmakers and the husband of Mary Wagenmakers, of Liverpool.
He enlisted in The Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces. Private Wagenmakers successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Wagenmakers was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial beside Utrechtseweg, in the Hartenstein Hotel area, Oosterbeek, and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
