Lionel James William Hart was born and lived in East London, he enlisted into the Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sapper Hart successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 69B from 21 June to 1 July 1943. His course report stated “Intelligent and reliable, good man”. He was posted to 3 Troop, 10 Section, 591 Parachute Squadron, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Spr Hart was killed in action on 9 June 1944, aged 25, and was buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
